Air conditioning expo heats up

Mark your calendars! The 2011 Air Conditioning, Heating, Refrigeration Exposition (AHR) is already slated to be the largest air conditioning event in the company’s 80 years of shows. Las Vegas will once again host the AHR Expo and with over 1,300 companies already scheduled for the January 31st through February 2nd event, next year’s show could very well make history. The pumped-up venue stems from the public outcry for increased environmentally friendly air conditioning and heating equipment and a greater selection of energy savings results. The AHR Expo plans to not disappoint. AHR already tops the air conditioning and heating show charts, but organizers are looking to expand even more, by presenting consumers and business owners with a wide variety of options. Over 120 countries have expressed interest in attending next year’s event. The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and the Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI), co-sponsor the event and have touted the 2011 AHR Expo as being one for the record books.

3 Benefits of Duct Sealing Service

By insulating and sealing your ducts, you can improve the efficiency of your system dramatically. Your conditioned air can easily be thrown back into areas that are not conditioned with proper ducts or ones that are improperly sealed. You will definitely be losing efficiency when this happens. Also, the non-conditioned air will be pulled by the non-sealed ducts and will cause your system to work that much harder to keep the desired humidity and temperature in your home. Different appliances such as furnaces and water heaters can also release gases that are dangerous like carbon monoxide which may then get sucked into the ducts through return ducts that are leaky. With that said, below are 3 benefits of duct sealing services. Energy savings This is usually the most common reason why people look for duct sealing services. When you are saving energy, you are going to lower your energy bills, which means a job that is high quality, can pay for itself over the years in energy savings. It also benefits our environment to conserve energy. The less amount of energy you use to keep your home comfortable, the less of an environmental impact it will have. Comfort Often, you

How to Avoid 90% of All System Failures

Dirt.  Five year olds love it, plants can’t live without it, and you’re breathing it in every day.  Not just breathing it in – you’re paying to inhale the largest cause of your home’s dust and allergy problems. You’re probably thinking that’s an exaggeration.  But the simple truth is that you are paying to run your heating and cooling system, more and more as the weather heats up.  And since dirt is the number one cause of system failure – 90% of all failures, in fact – chances are good that dirt is keeping your system from running at peak efficiency. Before you invest in a family set of gas masks or prepare for a nomadic existence in the Sahara (hey, at least then you won’t be paying for the dirt), you might want to give your heating and cooling professional a call. “Your system works hard,” says MightyServ. “It’s constantly circulating and cooling the air that keeps your family comfortable. Like anything else that works, it gets dirty and has to be cleaned. Scheduling the maintenance for your home’s heating and cooling system is as important as changing the oil in your car – if you don’t do it, eventually

Have You Had Your Home Winterized Yet?

The U.S. Department of Energy has estimated that as much as 30% of energy in a home is wasted because of drafts. However, there are a few fixes that you can accomplish yourself that can cut down on this and make your home more energy efficient. One way is to use the old fashioned draft snake to keep cold air from entering your home or warm air from escaping under the door. The old snake at the door is a great solution, but there are some even better ideas that will go a lot farther in creating a warmer climate indoors when the weather is cold outside during long winter months. One of the best ways to add to the energy efficiency of your heater is to have regular heater maintenance performed each year. Your professional HVAC service company can schedule this for you and that way there will be no need to worry that everything is all set when outside temperatures begin inching their way toward the freezing mark. Heating service will also increase the efficiency of this appliance. If you are thinking about new heater installation, this is a good time to discuss that with your HVAC contractor.

Energy simulation software

EnergyPlus and OpenStudio Plug-in have been updated by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The DOE’s high-tech energy saving systems measure the energy flow of heating, cooling, and lighting in buildings. The Google SketchUp OpenStudio Plug-in provides a user-friendly interface for interactive building designs, highlighting energy use in action, while the EnergyPlus generates a whole building energy simulation. These models can work in conjunction with one another, or independently, amplifying the already impressive technology. The latest versions also calculate the carbon dioxide concentrations and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning capacity of a given space. With no charge for download, building owners are advised to take advantage of the EnergyPlus or OpenStudio Plug-in software to further enhance the quality of heating and cooling use, leading ultimately to energy savings.

Recently, the Tennessee firm provided a Carrier touch-screen Wi-Fi thermostat to the college as well. Carrier gave the college more than $10,000 worth of equipment and training. This will be used for the ventilation, air conditioning and heating program taught at the college’s campus in Walker County, Rock Spring. It has been widely reported that Carrier donates to Georgia Northwestern HVAC program, as a way of training the next generation of techs to service the Infinity air Conditioning System. Undoubtedly, this system is among Carrier’s best models. Another benefit of this training arrangement, is that when industry representatives visit the college, students get the chance to network with them. Hence, students learn the right information and meet the right people. In addition, at its’ Chattanooga premises, Carrier trains students of the college free of charge on how to service its’ products. Inspired by Willis Carrier’s early twentieth century work on air conditioning systems, Carrier is a leading global brand in refrigeration, air conditioning and heating solutions. Air Conditioning Retrofit Project Nearly Complete

Alabama’s Cullman county schools are currently undergoing a heating, air conditioning, and lighting hardware overhaul. The energy conservation project has been managed by Chevron Energy solutions at an approximate cost of $13 million. Chevron has worked diligently to supply every county school with updated air conditioning and heating units, along with energy-efficient lighting. The school district and Chevron have come to an agreement regarding payment. With the projected energy bill savings, Cullman county will be able reimburse Chevron Energy. Though the retrofitting took longer than expected, the energy-saving results should outweigh any school inconvenience. Quarterly energy bill analysis will assist Cullman county and Chevron to assess the actual effectiveness of the program.
